The twinning relationship bewteen Whitchurch on Thames and La Bouille, in Normandy, was founded with an exchange of charters in 1976. A group from Whitchurch, and now, Goring Heath, goes to France in even-numbered years and entertains people from La Bouille in odd-numbered years. The visits usually take place over the early May bank holiday weekend. Private visits between the two villages are made at other times.
Over the years, large numbers of people have made the journeys and many long-lasting friendships have resulted.
Newcomers are always welcome and it is not even necessary to be able to speak French.
